
2009 CSL Grant Recipients


The Children’s Support League of the East Bay (CSL) provides grants to nonprofit agencies serving children in need in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. In 2009, CSL gave $188,000 to the 27 programs described below.
Child Abuse Prevention and Support Services
- Bay Area Crisis Nursery – Provides support to young children and families who are under stress or in crisis. http://www.bacn.info/
- Family Stress Center – Provides counseling and educational support services focusing on essential needs of children who are victims of abuse and their families. http://www.familystresscenter.org/
- CALICO Center – Oakland and San Leandro Facilities provide a supportive interview environment for child victims of sexual abuse. http://www.calicocenter.org/
- Child Abuse Prevention of Contra Costa – Teaches parenting skills to low-income, Spanish-speaking new mothers. http://www.capc-coco.org/
Children with Special Needs
- Bay Area Outreach and Recreation Program (BORP) – Provides accessible fitness and recreational opportunities for children and youth with disabilities in the Bay Area. http://www.borp.org/
Counseling Services
- Ann Martin Center – Grief counseling and emotional support to families facing a tragic death or life-threatening illness. http://www.annmartin.org/
Domestic Violence Counseling and Services
- Building Futures with Women and Children – Emergency services, including access to health care, tutoring, and counseling for children at three Alameda County domestic violence shelters, and subsidized housing. http://www.bfwc.org/
- Family Violence Law Center – Counsels young children in Oakland who have witnessed home violence. http://www.fvlc.org/
- STAND! Against Domestic Violence – Onsite, center-based Therapeutic Child Care systematically and holistically addresses the needs of at-risk children who have been exposed to domestic violence. http://www.standagainstdv.org/
Educational Support and Enrichment
- Ala Costa Center – Enhanced Learning After-School Program – Provides after school programming for school-aged children and young adults with developmental disabilities. http://www.alacostacenter.org/
- Alameda Library Foundation – Start With a Story – Delivers “story times” and books to the hundreds of children who visit parents or relatives in Alameda County’s jails each year. http://www.aclf.org
Family Support

Homeless Services
- Building Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency – Academic support for children living in a shelter and transitional housing in Berkeley. http://www.self-sufficiency.org/
- Emergency Shelter Program – Provides shelter, support and education to women and children who are victims of domestic violence or homelessness http://www.espca.org/
- Oakland Elizabeth House – On-going programs for children whose families are in transition from homelessness to self sufficiency. http://oakehouse.org/
- Sophia Project – Two Oakland locations providing education, childcare and other support for children and families at risk of recurring homelessness. http://www.sophiaproject.org/
Mental Health Services for Trauma and Illness
- Hospice of the East Bay; Comfort for Kids - Provides in-home medical, emotional, spiritual, and practical care for terminally ill children and their siblings in Northern California. http://www.hospiceeastbay.org
Teen Support/Outreach/Health
- Youth Movement Records – Involves youth through music, mentoring and entrepreneurship in order to reduce violence, develop skills and create community change. http://www.youthmovementrecords.org/
- Alta Bates – East Bay Aids Center Downtown Youth Clinic – Provides quality medical care to youth withHIV.
