What exactly is the Tour?
CSL will be holding its 30th Heart of the Home Tour on April 27 and 28, 2018. The Tour is CSL’s primary means of raising funds to help at-risk children in our community.
What does CSL do with the money raised?
CSL is a non-profit organization committed to improving the lives of children in our community. Our all-volunteer organization raises funds mostly through its annual Heart of the Home Tour to support a variety of non-profit agencies that benefit disadvantaged children, newborn to age 18, in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. Our purpose is exclusively charitable, and over 90% of the money raised on the Tour goes directly to these agencies. Click here to see a list of CSL’s 2017 grant recipients.
What does Tour include?
A Tour ticket provides access to a self-guided Tour of beautiful homes where you may view many of the rooms as well as the gardens. All guests will receive a Tour Book highlighting the features of each home. Docents will be available at each home. Professionals associated with the home may also be available to answer questions.
There are several ways to plan your Tour experience:
• You may purchase a Tour Only ticket.
• You may purchase a Tour + Lunch ticket. We serve a delicious lunch at the Piedmont Community Center.
• You may purchase a VIP ticket that includes the Tour, lunch, an exclusive evening Kickoff Party on April 25, and a Friday morning continental breakfast with a guest speaker on April 27.
• You can buy raffle tickets and have a chance to win one of many wonderful prizes. You do not need to be present to win.
• All Tour attendees, and the general public, are encouraged to visit our fabulous Pop-Up Boutique at the Piedmont Community Center at no extra charge. The boutique vendors generously donate 20% of their proceeds to CSL.
How can I buy tickets in advance?
Online: At ChildrensSupportLeague.org from March 13 to April 26. When you purchase your tickets online, you can choose to receive your ticket by mail (if ticket is purchased by April 21) or pick up your ticket at Will Call at the Piedmont Community Center, 711, Highland Ave., on Tour days between 9:30am and 4pm.
By Mail: Send a check payable to CSL to Children’s Support League, 6114 LaSalle Avenue, PMB 187, Oakland, CA 94611-2802. Indicate the type of ticket and quantity desired. If you would like your ticket(s) mailed to you, CSL must receive your order by April 21. All ticket orders received after April 21 will be held at Will Call at the Piedmont Community Center, 711 Highland Ave. Will Call hours are from 9:30am to 4pm on Tour days.

Where can I buy tickets on Tour days?
On the days of the Tour, purchase tickets (cash, check, or credit) at the Piedmont Community Center, 711 Highland Ave., Piedmont, from 9:30 am – 4 pm
Where do I pick up tickets held at Will Call?
Tickets held at Will Call can be picked up from 9:30 am – 4 pm at the Piedmont Community Center on the days of the Tour.
I purchased a ticket online. Will I get a payment confirmation?
Online ticket purchases are made through PayPal. You will receive a confirmation of your order (including preferred delivery) from PayPal for your records.
I lost my Tour ticket. What do I do?
If you lose your ticket before April 27, please contact CSL at 510.338.4521 or via email tickets@ChildrensSupportLeague.org. If you lose your ticket while on the Tour, speak to the CSL host at the entrance of the Tour home, or go to the ticket table at the Piedmont Community Center.
Can I use my Tour ticket on both days of the Tour?
Tickets may be used over the two Tour days to visit each house once.
I purchased a VIP ticket online. How will I receive my ticket and Kickoff Party invitation?
Your VIP ticket and Kickoff Party invitation will automatically be mailed to you. Please remember to RSVP by the date shown on the invitation.
Is the purchase price of the ticket tax deductible?
The price of the general admission ticket is deductible to the extent of the law. The value of goods for the VIP package is $100, and the VIP tax-deductible contribution is $50.
When and where is lunch served?
Gourmet food trucks will be serving scrumptious lunches at the Piedmont Community Center, 711 Highland Ave., Piedmont, from 11 am – 2 pm. Lunch is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Can I buy lunch on the days of the Tour?
If you do not have a Tour + Lunch or VIP ticket, you may purchase a lunch voucher for $10 at the ticket table at the Piedmont Community Center.
TOUR HOMES ACCESS & LOGISTICS
What are the Tour hours?
The Tour homes are open from 10 am – 4 pm, Friday and Saturday, April 27 and 28. VIP ticket holders have early entry privilege to the home where the VIP Breakfast is held and may go to that home as early as 8:30 am on Friday. We encourage Tour guests to visit and shop at our Boutique at the Piedmont Community Center, 711 Highland Ave., Piedmont. Boutique hours are from 10 am – 5 pm on Friday and 10 am – 4 pm on Saturday.
Where are the Tour homes located?
The addresses of the homes are printed on the Tour tickets. CSL does not provide Tour home locations on its website. The Tour is self-guided, and you may visit the homes in any order.
Will there be a map available?
Yes. Tour guests will be given a Tour Book that contains a map of the Tour homes. You may pick up a Tour Book at the ticket table at Piedmont Community Center or at any of the homes on Tour. If you already have your ticket in hand, you may use your GPS to locate the Tour homes.
Can I walk to the Tour homes?
The distance between the homes varies from year to year. Tour patrons may find it more convenient to drive than to walk to and from most of the homes. If you already have your ticket, you can plot the addresses on an online map to help you decide how far you may want to walk. If you pick up your ticket at Will Call, talk to the volunteers about walking possibilities. Parking is available but can be limited at certain hours of the day. We encourage patrons to ride-share when possible.
Where can I park my car? Is there handicap parking?
Street parking is available near all the Tour homes, and there is limited parking by the Piedmont Community Center. There is designated handicap parking at each home and at the Piedmont Community Center. Allow for extra time to find parking during lunchtime from 11 am – 2 pm.
Are there steps or safety issues for me to consider?
The safety of our Tour guests is of utmost importance to us. We select a variety of homes with broad appeal, some of which may have stairs. Our goal is to make the Tour safe and enjoyable. We make accommodations where we can and strive to provide easy access for all. We select the optimal flow through the home to avoid bottlenecks and do our best to identify and address potential hazards. Are there restroom facilities at the homes?
Restrooms are available at the Piedmont Community Center, 711 Highland Ave., Piedmont. There are no restrooms available at the Tour homes.
Are babies in arms and dogs allowed?
Babies are allowed but they need to be carried (no strollers). If children cannot be carried, they each must have a ticket, and the parent/adult accompanying the child must hold his/her hand at all times. Children in backpacks are not allowed. Dogs are not allowed at any time.
Where do I get my Heart of the Home Tour Book?
Each ticket holder is entitled to receive a Tour Book. Tour Books are available at any Tour home and at the ticket table at the Piedmont Community Center.
If I see something that I like, how can I get information about it?
Tour guests often inquire about room décor — paint colors, fabrics, floral arrangements, landscaping, accessories, etc. The Tour Book is a wonderful resource to use year after year to recall information about the Tour and the home vendors. Additionally, during the Tour, the docents will provide you information about the house, and featured vendor representatives are often at the Tour homes to answer your questions.
The homeowners have graciously opened their homes to Tour guests, and we wish to respect their property and their privacy. Tour guests may not touch anything in the home and may not take pictures while viewing the home.
How long does the Tour take?
The Tour is self-guided, so you can go at your own pace. Most Tour guests complete the Tour on a leisurely basis in three to four hours. That time allows for viewing of the homes, savoring a gourmet lunch, and shopping at the boutique at the Piedmont Community Center.
I can’t attend the Tour this year. How can I get information about the 2019 Tour?
Our 2019 Tour will be held on Friday and Saturday, April 26 and 27. We will be glad to add you to our mailing list so that you can receive a Tour brochure in mid-March 2019. What should I wear?
Wear comfortable shoes that are easy to slip on and off. Before entering the homes, you will be asked to remove your shoes and given booties to wear either over your bare feet or over your shoes. The weather is typically beautiful in April, but there may be a slight breeze. You may, therefore, want to wear layers or whatever is appropriate.
